On January 9, 2009, Steven Heath of Fogo Island was convicted of fishing Greenland halibut without a licence and was fined $750 and forfeited 20,660 pounds of halibut. DFO fishery officers observed Mr. Heath fishing for Greenland halibut on June 27, 2008.
On December 17, 2008, Rodney Card of Twillingate was convicted of failing to have a dockside monitor present while offloading cod. He was fined $500 and 82 pounds of codfish was forfeited to the Crown. While on patrol in the Merritt’s Harbour area of Notre Dame Bay, fishery officers observed Mr. Card, a licenced commercial fish harvester, offload codfish without a dockside observer as required by the licence conditions.
