The Icelandic Marine Research Institute has submitted its quota recommendations for the next fishing year which runs from September 2008 through August 2009. The recommendations for most species, including cod, are down. In matters of quota, the Minister of Fisheries has the final word and we shall report on individual species, when the minister has spoken, presumably before the end of June. The recommendation for cod is 124,000 tons (4.6% down) but most trade analysts are convinced that the cod quota will remain unchanged at 130,000 tons.
