Press communiqué states that Manitoba Water Stewardship is now accepting nominations for the fourth annual Manitoba Long Service Fisher Awards, which honour commercial fishers who have 50 years of industry involvement. It is told that the fishers can nominate themselves or be nominated by others. Nominations for the awards close March 5.
As per official figure the commercial fishing industry in Manitoba generates more than $50 million in economic activity each year and includes more than 3,000 commercially licensed fishers and their employees. It is informed that the awards are held in conjunction with the Manitoba Commercial Inland Fishers Federation and last year awards were presented to 48 Manitobans.
Fishing is an important source of income in Manitoba and to entourage this the authority has many plans. Manitoba Water Stewardship Award is among one of the those plans which boost the morale of the fishermen to work better for the economy as well as for their own livelihood.
