HB Grandi has decided to put its three pelagic vessels onto Atlanto-Scandian herring following reports of good fishing by the Icelandic fleet around 160 nautical miles north-east of Iceland.
According to Ingimundur Ingimundarson, head of HB Grandi’s pelagic division, Faxi RE was due in to Reykjavík on Friday to take a herring trawl on board before heading for fishing grounds. Lundey NS was expected to follow and leave for the herring grounds on Friday night or on Saturday morning. Ingunn AK’s main engine is currently undergoing an overhaul and when this is complete, probably at the end of the week, Ingunn will also sail for the same fishing areas.
‘The fishing on herring was good on Thursday and it doesn’t appear that there is any need for pair teams to tow a single large trawl between them, as was done over last year’s herring season. The herring is reported to be large and good quality, but with some feed in the fish,’ said Ingimundur Ingimundarson
