The company’s pelagic vessels finished their allocated capelin quota yesterday, with the final shot of the season taken by Ingunn AK. According to Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson, head of HB Grandi’s pelagic division, this is the end of the season, unless there are any late changes. Only a western migration of capelin now could lead to a further increase in the quota.
HB Grandi’s total quota for the season came to 61,000 tonnes, including 1900 tonnes that were added at the beginning of the week. The reason for this was that the Greenlandic fleet was unable to catch its quota, so this made it possible to add 10,200 tonnes to the Icelandic fleet’s quota. This quota will be drawn against the Icelandic fleet’s quota for the next season. This season has given HB Grandi the highest quota since 2005, when the company had 122,000 tonnes. The lowest quota was in 2009 and came to only 3000 tonnes.
According to Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson, both catching and processing have gone very smoothly in spite of unpredictable weather. Roe production is still in progress at Akranes and Vopnafjördur The plant at Akranes finished processing a 600 tonne landing by Víkingur AK yesterday morning and started on a 1000 tonne landing by Faxi RE. Lundey NS is scheduled to dock at Vopnafjördur at midday today with 1150 tonnes, while Ingunn AK was still at sea last night and expected to deliver its catch to the factory at Akranes that was still processing Faxi’s fish last night.
