HB Grandi’s pelagic fleet has this summer landed 27,500 tonnes of herring and mackerel valued at 780 million Isl Kr.
According to pelagic division head Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson, herring fishing has been strong, and catches of mackerel that have been taken with the usual herring have been an important bonus, although mackerel fishing has slowed down after its earlier peak.
‘Our ships have been landing full payloads. Faxi RE landed 1500 tonnes in Vopnafjördur on tuesday and yesterday Lundey NS was landing 1550 tonnes. Ingunn AK is in Fuglafjördur in the Faroes right now landing 2000 tonnes to Havsbrún, says Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson, and comments that Lundey NS has been pair trawling opposite Ásgrímur Halldórsson SF for the last few days while Faxi and Ingunn have been fishing together.
