According to the information the ABC Control Rule working group is a sub-group of the Scientific and Statistical Committee. It is developing a structured decision-making framework to assist in assessing scientific uncertainty, the probability of overfishing, and acceptable levels of risk when setting acceptable biological catch.
Gulf sates that the meeting will discuss and finalize a draft of the acceptable biological catch control rule currently under development. It includes developing a method for determining the appropriate probability of overfishing for stocks that are managed by the Council. For adequate stocks data the group will develop an acceptable risk based to determining acceptable biological catch.
For poor stocks data there will be appropriate alternatives to setting acceptable biological catch, depending upon the amount of data available. There will be recommendation on setting a maximum stock threshold below which harvest is not allowed.
