Figures from the Norwegian Seafood Export Council show that in Ocotber, the value of Norwegian Salmon exports totalled NOK 2.2 billion. It is said that the growth in October is the highest export value ever registered for a single month and is an increase of 28 percent or NOK 479 million compared to the same month last year.
Official data shows that the volume of Norwegian Salmon exports in October also set a new record, totalling 83,536 tonnes (round weight). This is more than 16,000 tonnes or 24 percent more than in October last year and represents an average of 121 fully loaded trailers a day destined for export markets.
Market analyst Paul Aandahl from the Norwegian Seafood Export Council said that the strong growth in volume and prices, which are well above the levels seen in 2008, shows that demand for Norwegian Salmon is increasing. In October, the volume of exports of fresh Norwegian Salmon fillets to the USA totalled 1,802 tonnes. Total exports of Norwegian Salmon fillets in October increased by 89 percent to 9,511 tonnes.
The EU is Norway’s most important market, accounting for 71 percent of export volume (in round weight). Growth in October was 17 percent, with the strongest growth in exports to Poland, France, Sweden and the UK. Exports of Norwegian Salmon to Asia in October totalled 9,459 tonnes (round weight).
