The groundfish trawlers operated by Síldarvinnslan and its subsidiary companies did well during May.
Fishing mostly off the west of Iceland, fresher trawler Bjartur landed 561 tonnes in six landings, of which 319 tonnes was cod. Gullver kept to fishing grounds closer to home off the east of Iceland and landed 478 tonnes, of which 241 tonnes was cod.
Freezer trawler Barði docked to land on the 10th of May with a mixed catch of mainly saithe and redfish, plus cod and silver smelt, with an ungutted weight of 400 tonnes.
The two trawlers run by subsidiary company Bergur-Huginn, Vestmannaey and Bergey again broke their own records by landing between them 1100 tonnes, even though Vestmannaey spent part of May on the slipway for routine maintenance.
