Visserijberdijf W. Melissant & Zn of Goedereede, Netherlands takes delivery of GO 1 Wouter Adriaantje from Maaskant Shipyards Stellendam. Wouter Adriaantje has a length over all of 26.99 m, beam of 6.9 m, and depth of 3.8 m.
The Melissant family, who have been beam trawler operators for many years, ordered the vessel as a beam trawler, but the owner decided to change the vessel to fish as a fly shooter with the possibility of rigging as a twin rig trawler. This meant a major conversion of the almost complete hull. The wheelhouse was cut off and re-positioned further forward, the hull has been lengthened from 23.99 to 26.99m, and a shelter deck installed.
The decision to switch to fly shooter has been a long process. The first intention was to rebuild the former GO 1 for twin rig trawls, but the owner managed to sell the vessel to Brixham, and this opened the possibility of ordering a new vessel from Maaskant Shipyards.
The ship is built to be energy efficient, and is equipped with a Caterpillar C32 as the main engine. The vessel is currently undergoing technical tests and is expected to be handed over to the owners during March.
