Galicia’s minister of maritime affairs Rosa Quintana has presided over the inauguration ceremony of the new director general of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Technological Innovation.
Mercedes Rodríguez says that she has a strong belief in the future of the fisheries sector, although there are challenges ahead in the form of the UK’s intention to leave the EU, as well as the landing obligation and the technical requirements around it.
According to Mercedes Rodríguez, these are issues that directly affect the Galician fishing industry, and she has stated that she will make a priority of addressing what she described as these immediate challenges.
She said that valuable work has already been done, and expressed confidence and optimism in the future of the fishing sector.
‘Fishing is a sector that has a future in Galicia and it will continue to be the driving force of our autonomous community,’ she said
