A Cowes registered Fishing Vessel Flo hit the rocks off Plymouth Sound with one person aboard; the vessel has now been towed to safety.
Brixham Coastguard received a Mayday call from the eight metre vessel, which was believed to be on passage from Cowes to Plymouth at 00:53hrs this morning. The vessel had only one person aboard and had hit the rocks and was sinking near Shag Stone, Plymouth.
Brixham Coastguard broadcast a Mayday Relay to shipping in the area and Plymouth RNLI lifeboat was requested to launch as well as the Ministry of Defence Police Launch. Plymouth Coastguard Rescue Team was also tasked to the scene.
Andy Huber, Watch Manager, Brixham Maritime Rescue and Coordination Centre said:
The Plymouth Lifeboat when arriving on scene put pumps aboard the fishing vessel and stabilised it. The vessel was then towed across the Plymouth Sound with the permission of the Queens Harbour Master at Plymouth and taken to Mashford Boatyard where the vessel was then beached. The skipper aboard the fishing vessel is safe and well.
