The 47-foot motor life boat from U.S. Coast Guard Station Wrightsville Beach and a 25-foot boat from Coast Guard Station Oak Island rushed to help the fishing vessel and rescued the captain. BM1 Ed Martin of Coast Guard Station Wrightsville Beach informed that the captain of the Beau Vin attempted to extinguish the fire but was forced to abandon ship into a life raft with a 406 MHz EPIRB (emergency position indication radio beacon).
As per the information the Coast Guard launched boat crews to the location received from the EPIRB, approximately 20 nautical miles from Masonboro Inlet, and issued an urgent marine information broadcast to alert other mariners.
