It is no denying fact that the fishing industry is under a lot of pressure because they’ve been heavily regulated by the government so they don’t deplete the ocean of fish. Adding to its woes come the approval of Cape Wind Project which would ruin the food chain that’s currently in Nantucket Sound. The 24 square mile stretch where these 130 wind turbines are slated to go is called Horseshoe Shoals.
According to the commercial fishermen the place the where the project is being conducted is one of the best places to fish. And now there is a lot of debate on whether this project would truly disrupt the local fishing business. Commercial fisherman Keith Sherman informed that they are obviously going to disturb the bottom and that’s one of the biggest fears because this fishing area will be shut down, jobs will be gone.
Barbara Hill of Clean Power Now, said that it cannot destroy fishing in Nantucket Sound. We’ve got a big body of water with a lot of fish out there. Senator Scott Brown did voice his concern over this project. He said while he supports wind power, he is worried that this plan could jeopardize jobs in the fishing and tourism industries.
