A severely injured fisherman who crushed his hand in a winch has been airlifted to hospital by the Shetland Coastguard Rescue Helicopter.
The Phillipino crew member was working aboard the Peterhead registered fishing vessel Atlantic Challenge this afternoon, 110 miles West of Shetland when the accident happened.
Shetland Coastguard was contacted at 1.08pm by the skipper of the fishing vessel and due to the severe nature of the hand injury and potential for the casualty to lose fingers, the decision was taken to send the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter to the vessel.
The crew member was flown to the Gilbert Bain Hospital in Shetland.
