Aberdeen Coastguard is coordinating an air and sea search in the Moray Firth for a fisherman who went overboard at 6.50pm this evening.
At 6.55pm Aberdeen Coastguard was contacted by the fishing vessel Osprey reporting that they had just lost a man overboard five miles North of Macduff. Two nearby fishing vessels which were fishing with Osprey joined the search. Aberdeen Coastguard immediately requested the launch of Macduff RNLI inshore lifeboat, Fraserburgh RNLI all weather lifeboat and Rescue Helicopter 137 from RAF Lossiemouth was scrambled.
The missing male is reported to be a Filipino crew man approximately 25 years old who went into the water at 6.50pm after getting caught in fishing nets which went overboard during repair work. He was not wearing a lifejacket.
The conditions on scene are good visibility with very light winds South Easterly force 2. The Osprey is a fishing vessel operating out of Macduff. The search continues with six fishing vessels, two lifeboats and a rescue helicopter.
