he Fisheries Department revealed six measures that will help Thailand’s seafood industry comply with new EU fishing regulations that went into effect on January 1st, in an effort to safeguard the 36-billion-baht Thai seafood export industry.
The Fisheries Department director-general, Somying Piamsombun, revealed that in order to comply with regulations regarding illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, or IUU, that were issued by the European Union or EU, the Agriculture and Cooperative Ministry has been allotted a budget worth 33 million baht to ensure that Thai seafood exports comply with IUU regulations so that the country maintains its position in the industry and that the effects of the new regulations are kept to a minimum.
