With several pair trawlers working together on trips to the fishing grounds, white fish landings increased at the beginning of last week at Peterhead Fish Market Scotland’s premier fishing port when over 9,000 boxes landed for the first two days market and gave buyers a choice more than in recent weeks.
All species continued to meet solid interest and as a result haddock sold at £114-£143 per 57kg box.
On the Monday the first market of the week Fifteen trawlers landed including one Danish trawler FRU THOMSON landed a total of 5352 boxes of whitefish which sold at the following Large Cod £2.60-£2.20, Medium £2.40-£2.70, Haddock large £2.00-£2.80, medium £1.40-£1.80, Whiting £1.50-£2.00, Coley £1.10-£1.50, Monkfish £3.50-£3.90, Lemon Sole £1.00-£4.00, Megrims £1.50-£5.00, Hake £1.20-£2.50 and plaice 50p-£1.50
Trawlers Landed Ocean Harvest, Harvester, FRU THOMSON (DANISH) Denebula, Celestrial Dawn, Ocean Venture 11, Adrone 11, Ocean Sovereign, Boy Andrew, Our Lass 11, Constant Friend, Acorn, Pegasus Avocet, and Heather Sprig.
The following day Tuesday Fourteen trawlers landed a total of 4067 boxes of white fish which sold at the following prices Haddock Large £2.oo-£2.50, Medium £2.00-£2.50, Cod Large £2.70-£3.50, Medium £2.30-£3.00, Lemon Sole £1.00-£4.00, Whiting £1.50-£1.80, Monkfish £3.00-£3.80, Coley 90p-£1.40, Megrims £2.00-£6.00, Plaice 60p-£1.00 Witches £1.50-£3.00, Hake £1.40-£2.50 and ling £1.70-£1.90.
Boats landed Beryl, Onward, Our Guide, Crystal River, Serene, Faithful, Benarkle, Ocean Bounty, Golden Gain, Summer Dawn, Attain, Accord, Strathelliot and Ocean Reaper.
On the Wednesday Seven trawlers landed a total 2556 boxes of white fish and sld for the following prices Cod Large £2.50-£3.30, Medium £2.20-£2.80, Haddock Medium £2.40-£2.80, Whiting £1.40-£1.60, Coley £1.00-£1.20, Monkfish £3.00-£3.50, Lemon Sole £1.00-£4.00, Plaice 60p-£1.00, Hake £1.50-£2.00, Witches £1.50-£2.00 and Ling £1.60-£1.90.
Trawlers landed Castlewood, Devotion, Fear Not, Ardent, Advance, Maggie M and Morey Endeavour.
The next market day Thursday Eight boats landed a total of 4378 boxes of white fish which sold at the following Cod Large £2.70-£3.30, Medium £2.10-£2.80, Haddock Large £1.80-£2.50, Medium £1.80-£2.30, Lemon Sole £1.00-£5.00, Whiting £1.20-£1.50, Coley £1.00-£1.20, Megrims £3.00-£7.00, Monkfish £3.30-£4.00, Plaice 60p-£1.00, Hake £1.50-£2.50 Witches £1.50-£2.50 and Ling £1.30-£1.60.
Trawlers landed Sustain, Vela, Starlight, Starlight Rays, Accord, Arkh Angle, Tranquillity and Opportune.
The last market of the week Friday saw Twelve trawlers a total of 3848 boxes of whitefish which sold at the following, Haddock Large £1.80-£2.50- Medium £1.80-£2.50, Cod Large £2.70-£3.30, Medium £2.10-£2.80, Whiting £1.20-£1.50, Coley £1.00-£1.20, Lemon Sole £1.00-£5.00, Monkfish £3.30-£4.00, Megrims £3.00-£7.00, Hake £1.50-£2.50, Witches £1.50-£2.50 , Plaice 60p-£1.00 and Ling £1.30-£1.60.
Trawlers Landed Lapwing, Budding Rose, Rosebloom, Boy John, Denebula, Adrone, Arcturus, Rosemount, Golden Sceptre, Discovery, Heather Sprig, and Conquest.
At Peterhead Fish market Scotland’s premier fishing port 57 trawlers landed a total of 20,216 boxes of whitefish for weekending October 22nd There were also Five Pelagic landinf of Mackerel which sold for good prices.
At Wick harbour one local white fish boat made two landings being in more than 500 boxes of white fish. The Scallop landings wre effected by bad weather although omen vessel landed 35 bags of shellfish.
At Buckie Harbour four vessel landed 124 boxes of whitefish, prawns and squid.
At Pittenweem harbour Fife there were good landings of prawn from the local fleet which sold for good prices.
One of the Pittenweem Squid boats Challenger and her three man crew had to be rescued by the Dunbar all-weather lifeboat after running into difficulties in the Firth of Forth. She Was taken in tow by the Dunbr Lifeboat and later The Anstruther Lifeboat took over the town and brought her safely into her home port of Pittenweem.
