Reduced supplies of white fish at Peterhead Fish Market, Scotland’s premier fishing port has continued to ensure that white fish prices stayed firm.
Large Cod sold at £103-£125 per 57kg box, Whiting made £103-£125 per 57kg box and Coley £57-£68 per 57kg box.
On the first market of the week Monday May 9th Seven trawlers landed 4474 boxes of white fish which sold at market for the following prices. Large Cod £2.50-£3.40, Medium £2.50-£3.00. Haddock Large £1.80-£2.20, Medium £1.80-£2.20, Whiting £1.80-£2.30, Round Whiting£1.10-£2.20, Lemon Sole £2.00-£5.00, Coley £1.00-£1.20, Monkfish £3.00-£4.20, Megrims £1.00-£5.50, Plaice £1.00-£2.50, Hake 80p-£2.50, Witches £1.00-£1.50 and Ling £1.00-£1.60.
Trawlers landed Atlantic Challenge, MaiMai, Acorn, Sardonyx, Phoenix, Falcon and Tranquility (LK).
The following day’s market Tuesday saw Two trawlers land a total of 1271 boxes of whitefish which sold at Large Haddock £2.50-£3.00, Medium £2.50-£2.70, Cod Large £3.00-£3.70, Medium £2.60-£3.00, Metros £1.20-£1.80, Whiting £1.80-£2.00, Round Whiting £1.50-£1.90, Lemon Sole £2.00-£6.00, Monkfish £3.50-£4.40, Coley £1.25-£1.50, Megrims £1.00-£4.00, Plaice 65p-£1.50, Witches £1.00-£2.00, Hake £1.00-£2.00, and Ling £1.50.
Trawlers landed Sunrise and Karanann.
The following market day Wednesday saw Five Trawlers land a total of 1675 boxes of whitefish selling at Cod Large £3.00-£3.60, Medium £2.70-£3.20, Large Haddock £2.50-£2.80, Medium £2.50-£2.80, Whiting £1.60-£2.50, Round Whiting £1.60-£2.10, Lemon Sole £32.00-£6.00, Megrims £2.00-£3.50, Monkfish £3.10-£4.40, Coley £1.30-£1.50, Plaice 65p-£1.00, Witches £1.00-£2.00, Hake £1.10-£2.80 and Ling £1.30-£1.60.
Trawlers landed Tranquility, Fisher Boys, Shalimar, Astemis and Acorn.
On the Thursday’s market Nine Trawlers landed a total of 4436 boxes of whitefish which sold at market for the following prices Haddock Large £2.20-£2.40, Medium £2.30-£2.60, Cod Large £2.50-£3.30, Medium £2.40-£2.80, Whiting £1.70-£2.50, Round Whiting £1.50-£2.00, Coley £1.20-£1.50, Lemon Sole £2.00-£6.50, Monkfish £3.60-£4.40, Megrims £2.40-£4.80, Plaice Unsold £2.00, Hake £1.00-£3.00, Witches £1.00-£2.00 and Ling £1.50-£1.70.
Trawlers Landed Harvest Hope, Ryanwood, Adrone, Courage, Sustain, Surmount, Adrent and Advance.
The last market day of the week Friday saw eight trawlers land a total of 3887 boxes of white fish which sold at the following prices. Cod Large £2.50-£3.20, Medium £2.40-£2.80, Haddock Large £2.00-£2.50, Medium £2.00-£2.50, Whiting £2.00-£2.20, Round Whiting £1.20-£2.00, Lemon Sole £2.00-£6.00, Coley £1.00-£1.30, Megrims £3.00-£7.00, Monkfish £3.20-£4.20, Plaice 60p-£1.50, Witches £1.00-£1.50, Hake £1.00-£2.00 and Ling £1.50-£1.80.
Trawlers Landed Starlight Rays, Starlight, Farnella, Harvester, Ocean Harvest, Valhalla, Acheive and Zenith.
At Peterhead there were total landings from 30 trawlers with a weekly total of 15,731 boxes of white fish.
At Fraserburgh harbour for the week there were a tail landing 756 boxes of whitefish from 27 trawlers.
At Ullapool Harbour there was a good week with Four Spanish liner/netters landing 143 tonnes of mixed white fish, six Scottish trawlers bring in 145 tonnes and two Scottish crabbers taking 18 tonnes of brown crab.
At Buckie Harbour there were only landings from Three trawlers totalling 338 boxes of whitefish, Prawns and squid.
At Pittenweem Harbour the local prawn fleets had a good week fishing the ground of the Firth of Forth with good landing reported and selling for good prices.
In the Early hours of Friday morning (3.30am) a prawn fishing boat the Fortune from South Shields which was working in the Firth of Forth got into trouble and had to rescued by the Kinghorn RNLI Lifeboat. The lifeboat reached the trawler and towed her to safety. In thanks for theirs help the Fishing boat skipper gave the lifeboat crew a box of fresh prawns for the breakfast.
