According to the Ministry of Production Peruvian fish exports has generated USD 214.6 million in revenue in April, 45.6 percent more than in the same month of 2010, when its value was USD 147.4 million. The data shows that the volume of exports increased 29.1 percent, to 122,300 tonnes compared to 94,700 tonnes shipped a year earlier.
The Ministry of Production statistics revealed that in April 2011; 71,300 tonnes of fish meal were exported, 29.1 percent more than in the same month last year (52,200 tonnes). With respect to the value, in the fourth month of this year fishmeal was exported for USD 105.3 million, 30.8 percent more than in April 2010, when the figure rose to USD 80.5 million.
The Peruvian fishmeal main markets were China, Germany, Japan, Chile, Taiwan, United Kingdom, Vietnam, Greece, Indonesia, Spain, Australia, Turkey and France. These countries bought about 97 percent of the total sales. April exports increased fishmeal sales abroad in the first fourth month period to USD 373.9 million, 34.6 percent less than in the first four months of 2010 (USD 571.6 million).
On the other hand, in the fourth month of 2011; 3,500 tonnes of canned goods were sold overseas, a volume that accounts for an increase of 118.7 per cent compared to 1,600 tonnes exported a year earlier. About 95.6 percent of those shipments included canned horse mackerel, anchovy, tuna and abalone.
