At constant prices, the volume of the catch of Icelandic vessels decreased by 10.3% in December 2009 compared with December 2008. In the first ten months of 2009 the volume has increased by 2.9 % compared to the same period the previous year.
Total catch of Icelandic vessels in December 2009 was 57,635 tonnes compared to 85,639 tonnes in December 2008. Demersal species accounted for 33 thousand tonnes, thereof cod 15 thousand tonnes, haddock 4 thousand tonnes, saithe 6 thousand tonnes and redfish 4 thousand tonnes. Total catch of pelagic species accounted for 23 thousand tonnes, there of herring 16 thousand tonnes and pearlside 6 thousand tonnes.
