The three fishing vessels designed to operate in Newfoundland for their Canadian owner are being built at the Ha Long shipyard in Vietnam, with the first of the three launched ready for fitting out, with delivery scheduled for August this year.
Atlantic Titan and its two sister vessels also ordered from La Hong each measure 29.10 metres overall, with a 10.30 metre breadth and a depth of 5.0 metres. The electrical installation work is being carried out by Alewijnse Marine, commissioned by British company Shipbuilding Asia Ltd UK
‘We are designing and supplying almost all the electrical equipment on board, including the switchboards and consoles,’ Alewijnse Vietnam Director Daniel Pop explains. ‘In addition, we are responsible for the supervision and commissioning of all the electrical systems.’
He commented that the decision by Shipbuilding Asia to choose Alewijnse Marine for this work was based partly on the presence of the Alewijnse facility in Vietnam, but also on its strong track-record of supporting the nearby Damen shipyard with its specialist skills.
‘We are very happy to be working with this client,’ added Daniel Pop. ‘We competed against three other companies for the contract and we are proud to have won it. We look forward to continuing to grow our business in Vietnam, especially now the shipbuilding industry here is entering a new stage of growth.’
A spokesman for the Ha Long yard said that the efforts made by the yard and by Shipbuilding Asia in promoting and marketing the opportunities available have resulted in the yard’s growing reputation on Canadian, European and Philippines markets.
In addition the the series of fishing vessels for Newfoundland, the yard also has orders for a variety of commercial vessels, including service vessels, a series of small dredgers, a bulk carrier, a cement carrier, a 120 metre barge, a tug and a 155 metre passenger vessel.
