The latest newbuild to join the Russian Far East fleet has begun sea trials ahead of delivery to the Russian Fishery Company.
This is the fourth in the series of high-capacity ST-192 factory vessels designed to replace the Russian Fishery Company’s elderly Soviet-era tonnage which is being phased out of operation.
The trawler series is being built at the Severnaya Shipyard in St Petersburg and sea trials take place in the Baltic, with contractors on board to monitor the many systems incorporated into the new trawler’s construction. Like its predecessors, Kapitan Martynov has a 108-metre overall length and a 21-metre beam, with a 5620 cubic metre refrigerated fishroom capacity. Accommodation is for a crew of up to 155.
The fifth and sixth trawlers in the series, Kapitan Yunak and Mekhanik Schcherbakov are currently under construction at the Severnaya Shipyard, which is part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC), the largest shipbuilder in Russia.
During 2023, USC delivered a record number of civil newbuilds to cuctomers, including eight fishing vessels. These are the ST-192 design Mekhanik Maslak and Mekhanik Sizov for the Russian Fishery Company, which were also built at Severnaya, plus other yards within the USC group delivered factory trawlers Kapitan Sokolov, Belaya More and Dmitry Kozharsky, and crabbers Omolon, Kedon and Vaigach.
