A pair of new live fish carriers have been launched at the Sefine shipyard in Turkey for Norwegian owners for DESS Aquaculture Shipping. The pair are due to be completed and delivered this summer.
Aqua Maløy and Aqua SPA hit the water at the shipyard just before New Year. These are 84.40 metre LOA, 16 metre beam live fish transport vessels, each with a 3500 cubic metre cargo capacity. Each is powered by a trio of 1300kW Yanmar 6EY22ALW engines.
The two vessels are designed by Salt Ship Design and are due to be delivered in summer 2019, and the construction contract includes options for two more vessels.
DESS Aquaculture Shipping has already assigned Aqua Maløy and Aqua SPA to long-term contracts with Marine Harvest.
The design has been developed to enhance fish welfare, hygiene, quality and environmental factors. The vessels have several new design features, and have extensive built-in flexibility with regard to different types of treatment methods.
