For the development of the shrimp production in the country there is an urgent need of comprehensive planning of sustainable shrimp culture, says Directorate of Fisheries recently. In the meeting the main discussion was on the current situation of shrimp raising, difficulties and challenges facing the shrimp industry and oriented the development in the future.
Presently, the main raised shrimps are black tiger shrimp, whiteleg shrimp, scampi and lobster. Whiteleg shrimp farming focuses on the middle provinces and Quang Ninh. The total farming area of the North and Middle is 15,237 ha, representing 73 percent of nationwide whiteleg shrimp farming area. In which, Quang Ninh has the largest whiteleg shrimp farming area nationwide of more than 4,000 ha (making up 19 percent of total area).
Whiteleg shrimp farming will be promoted by increasing the farming area and changing farming zone such as expanding intensive farming area and implementing GAP application to farming area as well as increasing clean breeding farms and leading toward being positive in high quality and pathogen-free broodstock shrimp.
