The local residents witnessed the arrival of thousands of seagulls in off season only for these dead sprats. The reason for such mass deadly sprats on the shore is either poisoning or a broken trawl-net from a fishing vessel. Kaj Mattsson, executive director of the Turunmaa Fish Association, said that such a scene of deadly sprats has been occurred in the Archipelago. It is said that there might be a storm that may have washed the dead fish ashore. Swedish fishing vessel was spotted in nearby Jurmo, carrying their own registration number.
The Finnish authorities are now working hard to get the real reason behind this deadly sprat. The authorities are assessing whether a fishing vessel has indeed had a trawl mishap in the open sea. Local resident Tore Johansson said that the fish were not died of poisoning there might be some reason.
Now the biggest problem arise with the dead sprats washed ashore is going to be the smell. This might pollute the atmosphere because the spring sun is setting in. But for seagulls it is feast time now as they are devouring them without difficulty.
