Catch reports for offshore arena shows a variety of fish from top to bottom such as kings, Spanish, barracuda, sharks, dolphin, amberjack all in the count along with black sea bass, grouper and several other bottom feeders being landed. Both kings and Spanish are high on the catch list, although specific action areas continue to change.
Captain Judy Helmey of Miss Judy Charters says the kings generally follow the bait fish. Whatever depth the bait fish congregate is where the kings will be. In recent weeks, kings have been reported close to shore in the channel leading into the Savannah River.
Commercial crabbers report an increase in numbers showing up in their traps, and reports from bait shrimp trawlers also indicate more crabs in the areas where dragging is allowed.
