As per the announcement of the Fisheries and Oceans Canada they are relocating their Charlottetown operations to temporary facilities in Stratford, Prince Edward Island. This temporary move is the first step in relocating the Charlottetown Fisheries and Oceans Canada staff and services, including Canadian Coast Guard operations, to new facilities in the Greater Charlottetown area from the existing Charlottetown Canadian Coast Guard Base.
The main reason behind such shift is related to the proposed acquisition by the province of Prince Edward Island of the Base property for a Wharf District and Convention Centre project. In the meantime, staff and services of Fisheries and Oceans Canada will move to temporary facilities located at 24 Stratford Road, Stratford, Prince Edward Island. Telephone numbers for the office will remain the same. Until a permanent location is identified, Canadian Coast Guard staff will remain on location at the Charlottetown Base, except for the Aids to Navigation Unit, which will be temporarily relocated to the Stratford facility.
The press release states that the relocation will not hamper the services to clients. Critical services to the public such as air and sea search and rescue, illegal fishing activity investigations and response to environmental emergencies will not be affected during the moves. Once new facilities are secured for Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the Canadian Coast Guard, the final relocation to new premises within the Greater Charlottetown area is expected to take place in spring 2012.
