The European Fisheries Fund (EFF) has decided to fund six projects across England, which will support improvements on fishing vessels, investments in fish processing and work that will benefit groups within the fishing industry. The development represents a total investment of £98,000 in the English fishing industry once other public and private match funding towards the projects is included.
Out this fund fishing vessel owners have been granted over £23,000, of which £13,000 will be used to install new winch equipment on a vessel in Norfolk and £10,000 towards fitting a more fuel efficient engine on a Brixham-based trawler. A company in Redcar is set to receive around £10,000 towards new crab meat extraction equipment and a fisherman in Essex has also been awarded around £3,000 which will be used towards a skate skinning machine.
The Shellfish Association of Great Britain is all set to receive £2,200 additionally for developing a mobile phone application based on their oyster tasting guide (PDF 2 MB).
