Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Yahya Hussin has said in a press statement that the allocation, channelled through the Fishery Department, covers the provision of infrastructure facilities for the tagal system, aquaculture sub-sector development programme and Bumi Hijau (Green Earth) programme under the National Food Supply Policy.
Hussian was speaking at the handing-over of assistance from the Fishery Department at Kampung Luanti, said the development of the fishery industry must be done rapidly. He added that in order to fulfill this need the government has set three main objectives in the National Third Agriculture Policy by 2010 to ensure sufficient fish production, commanding high-value export market as well as to preserve an sustainable management of the resources.
It is said that nearly 105 people from the district received assistance in the forms of fish fry, pipe and subsidy to rehabilitate fishponds. This includes Sabah Fishery Director Rayner Stuel Galid, Assistant District Officer Bernerd Kimin, District Ranau Tagal Chairman, Jephrin Majanki, and community leaders.
