The first meeting of the Commission for Benthic and Demersal Species of the Bay of Biscay Commission Espèces Benthiques et Démersales du Golfe de Gascogne (CEBDGG) has taken place, during which it took on its new mandate for bass management.
Now that the dedicated committee with responsibility for bass has come to an end, CEBDGG takes over its remit.
Olivier le Nezet was re-elected as CEBDGG’s president, along with vice-presidents Philippe Duval responsible for affairs relating to langoustine, Patrick Lafargue handling sole and Anthony Morin dealing with bass in the Bay of Biscay region.
In particular, the Commission took note of ICES advice on the sole stock in the Bay of Biscay, recommending a slight increase in fishing opportunities for 2018. Possibilities for the development of the fisheries management regime for 2018 were also discussed.
In order to ensure compliance with the limitations on bass landings in the Bay of Biscay, a project to review the management measures for the commercial fisheries was initiated and will be active in the coming months.
