Somalia seas are now becoming a dangerous zone as the pirates seizes fishing boats, sailor ships and big vessels very often to meet their illegal demands. Last week such incident happened when Somali pirates armed with grenade launchers and automatic weapons have captured a Chinese fishing boat and its multinational crew.
According to local news agency the pirates took over the Chinese fishing boat, named Tanyo No. 8, with 24 crew members on the Kenyan waters near Lamu Andrew Mwangura. Coordinator of the East African Seafarers’ Association (SAP) informed that the boat and the crew – which included 15 Chinese, a Taiwanese, a Japanese, three Filipinos and four Vietnamese – were taken to waters off the coast of Somalia.
In the meantime a pirate who did not identify himself told local Shabelle radio that his group abducted the Chinese boat about 50 km (30 miles) off the coast of southern Somali port city of Kismayo late Thursday afternoon. He also told that the 24 crew members aboard were all ‘fine.’ It has now become a regular affair when Somali pirates causing havoc in one of the world’s busiest shipping areas connecting Europe to Asia and the Middle East. They have been taking millions in ransoms, hiking insurance costs, and threatening humanitarian supplies.
