At Mattapoisett library on July 9 America’s only female swordfish boat captain and author Linda Greenlaw had expressed her experiences in commercial fishing. She reads from her latest book Seaworthy: A Swordfish Boat Captain Returns to the Sea, which is a chronicle of her return to sword-fishing after 10 years as a lobsterman and marks her return to nonfiction and high-sea adventure.
According to the information Greenlaw, is author of three New York Times bestselling books about life as a commercial fisherman: The Hungry Ocean, published in 1999, The Lobster Chronicles, published in 2002, All Fisherman are Liars, published in 2004. Greenlaw is 2003 winner of the U.S. Maritime Literature Award, and the New England Book Award for nonfiction in 2004.
Greenlaw first came to the public’s attention in Sebastian Junger’s The Perfect Storm, where Junger called her “one of the best captains … on the entire east coast.” She’s also been featured on Good Morning America, Today, CBS Sunday Morning, The Martha Stewart Show, and National Public Radio. She lives on Isle au Haut, Maine.
