According to the information this agreement is said to see economic capacity building and employment and training opportunities provided to the Kwakiuti people by British Columbia’s largest aquaculture company.
In this agreement KFC agreed to support MHC operations where it builds four new salmon farms, two freshwater hatcheries and a processing plant in their traditional territory. Verna Chartrand, KFC Chief, said that the agreement was signed in 2000 with Omega Seafood which later become Marine Harvest Canada and now by making some changes to the existing agreement both the companies have now created benefits for both company and Nation.
He also said that the community of the nation is looking forward to the economic opportunities that will come from this. It is to ensure that Marin Harvest operates sustainbly in our traditional territory and will keep doing its utmost to protect the marine environment that is so important.
Vincent Erenst, Managing Director at Marine Harvest Canada, told that the support of the Kwakiuti people is very important to company’s northern Vancouver Island operations.
