This is the view of fisherman and skipper Irwing “Jusse” Kristensen, who landed sprat at the factory in Thyborøn with his Esbjerg vessel “Darwin” for the second time this year in mid March.
– In the given situation, it was undoubtedly the right decision to stop manufacturing fishmeal and fish oil in Esbjerg and gather all landings of raw materials for the factory in Thyborøn, says Kristensen. – Moreover, we feel well received there. It is easy to get in touch with the service companies and we receive good service from both the workmen and the dischargers at the factory, who are very positive and flexible.
Everyone has accepted the drive
The Esbjerg skipper’s main concern was whether the men working on his vessel would be prepared to travel to Thyborøn to get to work – and back again to visit their families.
– However, everyone has accepted it and I believe that we all understand that it is the only way forward if we are to continue fishing, says Irwing Kristensen, who points out that the herring and mackerel fishermen have to drive even further to get to work.
– Several men have already invested in a second car, so that they can manage the transport themselves and are not dependent on others when travelling back and forth, Irwing Kristensen notes.
