Windy weather in the early months ruined the sprat fishing, so now we hope for a good sand eel season.
This is the view of Erik Bonde Pedersen, Chairman of the Board of TripleNine.
– By mid March, we had only received two vessels with full sprat loads from the North Sea, he says. – By contrast, the fishing in the Baltic was reasonable and here it is to our advantage that the fish is very oily.
– However, fishing in the Baltic has also been hindered by very windy weather, so altogether we have not received as much raw material at the start of the year as expected, concludes the Chairman. – Of course that is bad for both the factory and the fishermen, for at the same time fuel prices have passed the magic limit of DKK 4. It is therefore only worth setting out if there is a very good chance of catching fish – without having to search for too long.
– Only very good fishing can compensate for the lower fish oil prices and the high fuel prices. After the poor early months of the year, we are now putting our trust in a really good sand eel season, and everyone is very optimistic, ends Erik Bonde Pedersen.
