Food Certification International (formerly FCI Nautilus) has been accredited by independent accreditation body, Accreditation Services International to carry out the assessment and certification of fisheries to the Marine Stewardship Council standard for sustainable and well-managed fisheries. FCI was accredited for MSC certification with the recent certification of Sweden’s Astrid Fiske ‘Maatjes’ herring fishery.
Rupert Howes, Chief Executive of the MSC says: “I am delighted that FCI has been accredited for fisheries. There are now six fully accredited certifiers and seven further certifiers undergoing the accreditation process for fisheries certification. This significant increase in certifier capacity will provide increased choice for fisheries wanting to be assessed at a time when fisheries in Northern Europe are showing an unprecedented interest in MSC certification. I look forward to seeing more of their assessments reach their conclusions in the near future.”
Martin Gill, Chief Executive of FCI says: “FCI is very proud to have completed the fishery accreditation process and to be in a position to now provide both MSC Fishery and Chain of Custody certification services. With a number of fisheries already in the full assessment process as well as a growing Chain of Custody client base FCI is committed to becoming a major provider of MSC assessment globally”
FCI is currently carrying out assessments on the SPSG North Sea herring, SPSG western mackerel, North Sea brown shrimp and Gambia sole fisheries.
