New Zealand fishing company Sealord is now ready to take delivery of their new flagship following sea trials carried out at the Simek yard in Flekkefjord.
Tokatu is a Skipsteknisk ST-118 design, and according to the yard, technical sea trials have been conducted recently, demonstrating excellent performance.
The first new trawler to join the New Zealand fleet for approximately twenty years, Tokatu was ordered two years ago and is a NZ$70 million by Sealord and its shareholders, Maori-owned Moana New Zealand (Aotearoa Fisheries Limited) and Japanese company Nippon Suisan Kaisha, Ltd (Nissui).
The new trawler is expected to have capacity to handle 20,000 tonnes of raw material annually.
Tokatu has an overall length of 81.75 metres and a beam of 17 metres, with accommodation for up to 50 persons.
Its main engine has a 5400kW output and fuel capacity is 1120 cubic metres, while it has a 2500 cubic metre fishroom capacity.
Tokatu is expected to leave the Simek yard in Norway before the end of April, and the official naming ceremony will take place in Nelson at the end of May.
