Iridium to Establish Worldwide Network of Maritime Service Centers to Support Iridium OpenPort(R) Products

Iridium Communications Inc. (Nasdaq:IRDM) has announced it is establishing a Global Service Program for its Iridium OpenPort® broadband marine satellite communication product. Launching first quarter 2011, this new program aims to provide full-service shipboard support to any Iridium OpenPort customer at more than 50 ports around the globe. Iridium is the first mobile satellite service provider to offer full-service support of this kind for any of its products.

Peterhead Harbour Scotland’s premier fishing port established a new record in 2010 for the fifth year. The port made landings worth over £148 Million to further strengthen its position as the top fishing port in Europe.

Nordic Council involved in North Atlantic mackerel war

The EU and Norway are in dispute with Iceland and the Faroe Islands over fishing rights in the North Atlantic. At the Council's January meeting on 26 January, the Nordic Council's Environment Committee strongly urges the parties to come to the negotiating table and find a solution that will ensure sustainable exploitation of mackerel stocks - fisheries which have an annual turnover of billions.

Ireland set to lead Europe in research vessel productivity

Ireland’s national research vessels RV Celtic Explorer and RV Celtic Voyager are set to lead Europe in 2011 with an all time record of 627 days at sea between the two ships, well above the average for equivalent European research vessels.
