Newfoundland and Labrador Snow Crab Landings Top $250 Million, Best in Seven Years

Fisheries and Oceans Canada today reported that the value of snow crab landings for the 2011 fishing season in Newfoundland and Labrador surpassed $250 million, the highest recorded landed value for snow crab in the province since 2004. The landed value represents an increase of 61 percent over last season.

Salmon and Mackerel Reduce Seafood Exports in September

The value of exports of Norwegian Seafood in September totalled NOK 5.1 billion. This is a decline of NOK 595 million compared to September last year. For the year to date, the value of exports of Norwegian Seafood totals NOK 37.9 billion. According to figures from the Norwegian Seafood Export Council (NSEC), this is an increase of NOK 759 million on the same period in the record-breaking year of 2010.

A Slow Fishing Season Doesn’t Dampen Demand for US Albacore Tuna Whole Foods Market Holds a Series of Sold Out Events in WA, OR & BC

Demand for sustainable, Northwest albacore was greater than ever this summer, despite a slow start to the season caused by unfavorable weather conditions. The increase in demand is part of a wider trend of Northwest consumers seeking out locally-caught seafood. To meet the demand, Whole Foods Markets in the Pacific Northwest expanded their annual sale of the US-caught tuna, with events in all Oregon and Washington stores and, for the first time, in British Columbia.
