Larsnes Mek Verksted has delivered a new Rolls-Royce-designed purse seiner/seiner netter to fishing company Hovden Senior, based at Kjødepollen in western Norway. This is the company’s third newbuild since 1996, and replaces a 2007-built vessel.
The 2007 Hovden Viking was sold last year to Øksnes Kystfiske ahead of the new vessel’s construction, which took place at Larsnes Mek Verksted on a hull fabricated and partially outfitted at Marine Projects Ltd in Gdansk before being towed to Norway in July for completion.
The new vessel was handed over on 15th of December at the yard, following successful sea trials in the preceding week.
Yard newbuild no 61 has an overall length of 46 metres, a breadth of 12 metres and a depth to the shelteredeck of 7.50 metres, and while it is designed to concentrate on purse seine and seine net fishing, it is also prepared for trawling with a substantial aft gantry if this is seen as an option in future.
One of the most modern and sophisticated coastal vessels in the Norwegian fleet, the 1900kW Hovden Viking has six RSW tanks with a 486 cubic metre combined capacity, with two of the tanks outfitted for holding live catches as well as insulated for freezing. The deck is laid out to pump catches from the fishing gear and there is a handling area for whitefish catches.
Accommodation is for twelve persons in eight cabins.
Hovden Senior has quotas for herring, mackerel, saithe, cod and capelin.
