Geir Johansen from Botnhamn in the north of Norway has taken delivery of a new 36-foor Malo Sjark from Jemar Norwpower in Kristiansund, with the boat completed, trialled and delivered in time to steam home to the north before Christmas.
The new Johan Martin, named after a boat owned by Geir Johansen’s grandfather, is rigged for gillnetting. Sea trials were completed from Kristiansund in a heavy north-westerly wind and snow – perfect testing weather, according to the yard’s Nina Ersnes.
Johan Martin is 10.99 metres overall with a 4.45 metre breadth and the design with the forward wheelhouse leaves plenty of working deck space aft and an 18 cubic metre fishroom below. The wheelhouse is designed for an all-round view from the control position, and with a galley area on the port side.
There are three berths in the accommodation below, along with shower and excellent crew facilities, with the accommodation fitted out by Troldmyr Møbelfabrikk.
The engine room has a 300hp, 9.3-litre Nogva Scania DI09 70M main engine that drives a four-bladed Nogva propeller via a Nogva HC-168 reduction gear. Slepiner Hydraulisk supplied the SP 300 side thruster.
Johan Martin is rigged for netting with a package of hydraulics from Lorentzen Hydraulikk, including a 1.2-tonne net hauler, sorting table and a MK2 net stacker, in addition to the anchor winch and the winch for the steadying sail aft.
The layout has the gear handled over the starboard side, a shelterdeck on the port side and net pounds in the aft compartment.
Catch handling equipment is from Småldal Mekaniske and the landing crane is supplied by Truck Tec.
