In a milestone development, the Scottish Pelagic Sustainability Group’s (SPSG) North Sea herring fishery has been recertified as a sustainable and well-managed fishery with the prestigious Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) ecolabel.

ACI’s 4th Maritime Salvage & Casualty Response will provide an in-depth look into salvage, towage and casualty response. The event will focus on the most current developments in operational response to a salvage situation and what impact these have had on the industry. Effective casualty response, as well as the latest legal and contractual issues will also be on the agenda.

Among many NFFO members who have been involved in a highly successful research initiative that has encouraged fishermen and scientists to work in partnership is current president, Arnold Locker, who comes from a third generation fishing family based in Whitby.

Barrie Deas, Chief Executive of the National Federation of Fishermen’s Organisations (NFFO) commnent: ” The NFFO represents all sizes of vessel and regrets that the issue of quota distribution ended up in the courts. Indeed the Federation made a number of attempts to mediate between the parties to achieve an amicable out-of- court solution.
