Chilean aquaculture service operator Yagan Chile has placed an order to purchase two Racemaster net cleaning robot systems from Norwegian technology company MPI (Multi Pump Innovation), bringing total sales to 30 units in less than nine months.
Representatives of the French and UK fishing sectors have thrashed out a settlement over the scallop fishery, following several rounds of talks that had initially looked promising, before failing to reach agreement. UK fisheries minister George Eustice has made a statement on the breakdown of negotiations over scallop fishing in Baie de Seine, which came to an end when the French negotiators pulled out, citing ‘extortionate’ compensation demands by the UK representatives. George Eustice stated that he has written to French minister Stephane Travert to register his disappointment that no agreement was reached.

Earlier this year, a group of researchers made the claim that fishing activities occurred in 55% of the world’s oceans. As a result, their study found that the area fished is four times bigger than the area occupied by agriculture in terms of square kilometres. At the time, Europêche argued that the study was based on scientifically unsound data, overestimating the proportion of the seabed where fishing occurs.
