Indian fisheries working group has demanded to introduce additional resource-specific vessels for the 11th plan.

Illegal fishing vessels were seized and eight crewmembers were arrested from prohibited Gahirmatha marine sanctuary limits off the Bay of Bengal coast.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $5-million grant (approximately Rs.23.22 crore) to help fishing communities and others affected by the December 2004 tsunami in Kerala and Tamil Nadu restore and diversify their livelihood.
