With few prospects for the capelin quotas to be allocated
The capelin search that HB Grandi vessels are taking part in has located capelin over a wide area north and north-east of Iceland. Skipper Albert Sveinsson of Faxi RE said that it had been decided that they would spend longer than originally intended on the capelin search, but that if everything goes to plan, they should be finished by midday today.
HB Grandi’s fresher trawler Ásbjörn RE sold its catch on the Bremerhaven auction over three days this week, with the final sale taking place yesterday morning. The 138 tonne catch fetched a total of €250,000, equivalent to 42 million Isl Kr at the present rate of exchange.
Two of HB Grandi’s pelagic vessels, Faxi RE and Lundey NS, are taking part in capelin research for the next few days, alongside Börkur NK and research vessel Árni Fridriksson. This year the annual capelin search takes on a whole new dimension as Marine Research Institute scientists have the opportunity to follow in real time data from all four vessels taking part in the search.
