A new factory trawler for Norwegian company Prestfjord is taking shape at the Freire yard at Vigo in Spain and is expected to be completed by the end of this month.
Built to a Rolls-Royce NVC370 design, the new Holmøy measures 69.70 metres with a 16 metre beam and its design draws heavily on the experience gained from the Prestfjord that the same owners ordered in 2010. The design process included analysis of 25,000 hours of trawl-data logging. It is five metres longer than the older trawler, with a slimmer hull for that allows for easier propulsion.
One of the main innovations on board Holmøy is the use of direct drive permanent magnet trawl winches, and these are the first of this new type to enter service.
Much of the ship’s systems are from Rolls-Royce, including the new fuel-efficient Bergen B33:45L diesel main engine, the first of this type to go into service. Holmøy’s propulsion system uses a hybrid shaft generator system (HSG) that allows the option of operating in diesel-mechanical or diesel electric modes.
It is being fitted out with a factory deck for producing frozen fish to be stored in the 1400 cubic metre fishroom.
Holmøy has accommodation for a crew of up to 29 in 23 cabins.
