Aalborg company Carsoe, which specialises in complete processing decks for fishing vessels, has signed a heavyweight contract with the Russian Fishery Company.

The order calls for two years of intensive co-operation between Carsoe in Denmark and the USA, is worth more than DKK800 million, and is the company’s largest order so far.

Carsoe will be supplying seven fishing vessels, the first of which is being built in Spain, plus a further six to be built at the Admiralty yard near St Petersburg, in an investment project that is within the framework of the recent investment quotas legislation.

‘The first trawler will be built at a Spanish shipyard and is designed by Skipsteknisk in Ålesund. The next six will be built at the Admiralty Shipyard in St. Petersburg. Petersburg, and here we have also signed a contract for the delivery,’ said Carsoe’s CEO Mikkal Jacobsen.

‘We are just two companies in the world that can supply complete fishing factories to ships of this calibre and this order is a big win for us because it shows that we can co-operate across our companies in Denmark and the United States.

He added that he expects Carsoe to continue to grow significantly in the coming years on the basis of this order, and commented that the company was chosen on the basis of its technical expertise, the overall system design, crucially, confidence that the factory deck will be highly reliable.

Each of the new vessels will be able to process between 400 and 500 tonnes of fish per day.

‘In the United States and Canada, only three or four freezer and factory trawlers are expected to be built next year, and so this is a world-class order,’ commented Carsoe Seafood Processing’s sales and business manager Jeppe Christensen.

‘We have been very successful with our complete factory systems, especially for shrimp trawlers, and we are among the only manufacturers in the world to manufacture equipment for producing surimi at sea. It has been a contributing reason why we have been selected as a supplier for the Russian Fishery Company.’
