There’s no shortage of activity at the Bredgaard Bådeværft yard at Sakskøbing in Denmark, which yesterday craned its latest newbuilding into the water.
Sønderstrand S-45 is being built for fishing company Gitte Henning and is the largest GRP fishing vessel to be built in Denmark at 16.35 metres overall and with a 6 metre beam and a 54 cubic metre fishroom.
‘It filled the construction hall completely and we needed every spare centimetre,’ said yard director Michael Jakobsen, admitting that building on this scale presents challenges, but good organisation keeps the wheels turning.
‘We towed the new boat out and were able to lift the wheelhouse into place. Now that’s done we can concentrate on fitting out, and installing deck equipment. The new boat should be finished on the 8th of July,’ he said.
Sønderstrand has a Mitsubishi S6A3 MPT AW100 main engine and two smaller Mitsubishi auxiliaries, as well as thrusters fore and aft.
Thyborøn company Kinde & Toft are involved in the fitting out, supplying the fish handling equipment, which includes a plaice gutting machine that is one of only three in Europe.
The yard is a busy place. In addition to the new Sønderstrand, there is a catamaran to deliver to a Norwegian customer and another newbuilding that will be started as soon as the catamaran has gone.
