The first aluminium catamaran built by the ECOREP-Piriou venture in Algeria and designed by Coprexma has been launched. Construction started at the beginning of this year and this 17 metre by 6.20 metre vessel is the first of its kind to be built in Algeria.
The multihull is going to the Eurl Zizou fish farm at Chlef and is fitted with a pair of 280hp engines and a 1.30m/15t deck crane for serving the fish farm installations.
It has a deck area of 75 square metres and can carry up to 25 tonnes of fish in tanks. It is run by a crew of six.
‘Aluminum construction requires a specialised understanding of the technical limitations of the material, as well as knowldege of the specific regulations relating to its use,’ Coprexma said.
‘These are all specialised skills that the Coprexma team has at its disposal, with more than thirty years of experience in construction this kind of vessel.’
The launch of this unique vessel in Algeria has attracted a great deal of interest and the launch ceremony was attended by the Algerian minister of industry.
Established in 2015 and located at Bouharoun – Wilaya de Tipaza, 40km west of Algiers, the ECOREP-Piriou joint venture is already a leader in Algeria for fish vessel construction and repair. This first aluminium unit demonstrates the opportunities and targets for development set for the joint venture, which aims to become a shipyard dedicated to the construction of steel, aluminium and composite vessels up to 550 tonnes, and associated services.
